A steel top takes welding spatter, hot work and direct hammer blows that would destroy a laminate or timber surface, at the cost of being unforgiving to anything dropped on it. Fitted as specified, integrated sockets stop the extension lead running across the floor, which is the single most common trip hazard on a shop floor; task lighting removes the shadow that the operator themselves casts over close work; and the parts cabinet keeps consumables at the point of use instead of at the stores hatch.
