A steel top takes welding spatter, hot work and direct hammer blows that would destroy a laminate or timber surface, at the cost of being unforgiving to anything dropped on it. Fitted as specified, a perforated back panel puts the tools in reach and off the work surface; and integrated sockets stop the extension lead running across the floor, which is the single most common trip hazard on a shop floor.
